Not feelin' like a Bahama Mama

Posted by Danica Salajko on December 08, 2011 0 Comments

 Good Morning!

My 2012 collection is nearing complete, and I think I got something for every body!  I'm introducing a lot of mix and match pieces, and some new sexy cover-ups.  In three weeks I'm off to the beautiful island of Bonaire to shoot these babies!

This will be my first time on the beach since I was pregnant, and I'm not sure if I'm ready?  I haven't quite shed all the baby weight, and with all these holiday parties coming up, it's hard not to indulge!  It's like waving a chocolate bar in your face when your pms'ing!  Luckily, my personal trainer friend Christine Mazzone at Crossfit Mississauga, has given me a crash course of what diet and exercise I can do to get beach body ready!

DIET:

VEGETABLES, eat lots of them! Raw, cooked, whatever! Not only are they good for you, they're a great source of fibre!

Up your PROTEIN in take.  I like to call it FLB, fish, lean meats, and beans.

WATER, drink lots of it!  At least 4 glasses a day.  It flushes your system and keeps you hydrated.

CUT OUT ALCOHOL, SALTS and SWEETS! Okay, I know many of us are going to have a problem with this one.  But remember "Fruit is Nature's Candy!"

EXERCISE:

Warm Up: Light jog around your block, 25 jumping jacks, stretches

3 SETS: 10 Push-ups, 25 sit ups, 10 squats, 10 lunges

Cool down: Light jog around your block, stretches

If you can do this routine 5 days a week, great!  If not, try to do it at least 3 times a week.

DISCIPLINE:

The only way you or I can achieve our goal is discipline.  Hungry? Eat a carrot stick.  You really want that glass of wine, drink water out of a wine glass.  You don't feel like exercising today, try doing your work-out to the song "Hurts so Good" by John Cougar Mellencamp.  It hurts to looks beautiful sometimes!

Do whatever you have to, to stay on track.  We can all be our own worst enemy at times, but we (I) can do this- I WILL DO THIS!

Choosing a black bathing suit is always safe...or is it?

Posted by Danica Salajko on December 01, 2011 0 Comments

Yes!  Choosing a black bathing suit has always been safe.  We've been told for years black is a slimming colour to wear, but for those of you who want to break out of that box here are some suggestions of why prints and brighter solids could be the better option!

Many of us prefer solids because we can match them with more of our cover-ups, that is true! But unfortunately, they show every bump and ripple on our bodies. If there are areas on your body you don't want to bring attention to, choosing styles with a higher waist, or rouching through the tummy are great!

From my own experience, I find wearing a brighter colour or a print fabric on the beach is more complimentary especially when you don't have a tan yet. Print fabrics are always more forgiving for more voluptuous girls.  Prints keep the eye moving on the body, instead of zeroing in on our imperfections. If you are choosing a print swimsuit, choose a fabric that fits your personality! If your outgoing,  go for that bolder print.  For those of you that are a bit more conservative, a smaller print will keep you in your comfort zone!

Don't stress when shopping, I hope some of these suggestions help!  Just remember swimsuits are supposed to be fun!
